It’s easier than ever to pursue a GSA contract and access the billions of dollars the government is putting into your program so you can take your small business to heights you never dreamed of. However, before you start the process, you must ensure that you qualify and have all the information you need. This is not difficult, but it can be time-consuming and we want to make sure it is as easy for you as it is for us.
Do You Qualify?
We will discuss what you need to qualify for a government contract through the GSA program, as well as any information you want to know. As you can see, this is not an overly difficult qualification, but it is not as easy as you might imagine when it comes to obtaining a GSA contract.
The fact is that most small businesses qualify through the GSA program, if they have not already done so. If you have done this, you are one of the fastest growing companies you will see in the U.S. To qualify for the program in and of itself, here is what you will need to have:
- A minimum of two years being in business
- Currently, make products that match the scope of what the government is looking for (the majority of companies already do)
- Have sold $25,000 worth of product in the first two years, and $25,000 per year every year in business after that
- Not have any major debt issues
- TAA Compliance (ensuring products come from a specific list of countries of origin)
- Letter of Supply for any products that you do not manufacture yourself

Step 1 – Will A GSA Contract Grow Your Business?
You want to make sure you have enough capital to float your company through the initial stages. You also must have a good understanding of the GSA program and its benefits for your business. To be sure, you should investigate whether the federal agencies that purchase the products you offer actually use the GSA programs. You need to be able to ensure that you and your companies actually benefit from a GSA contract. If you need help finding out everything, we will be happy to help.
If not, it is not worth moving forward, and it is not worth it for you or your company to move forward without fully understanding the GSA program and its benefits.
Step 2 – GSA Offer Preparations & Submission
The package that is being prepared consists of about 23-30 documents, and each document must be completed by the most qualified and knowledgeable member of your team. There will be a technical document at the highest level, which will be the meat and potatoes of the offer. This is a simple form, so make your offer here, but be warned: it’s not for everyone.
Step 3 – GSA Clarifications & Negotiations
Once you have put forward your original proposal, you will enter the stage where the government will clarify and negotiate what the final treaty will look like. This is the last step before you get a GSA contract, and once you get through this step, all the information in your package must be consistent. There really is no specialist appointed, so what they decide is determined by the results.
Step 4 – GSA Registration
If you offer a service, you should use GSA’s E-Buy, but you can also use it when you offer a product.
The GSA contractors are the only ones who can identify and offer the government-funded opportunities. There is also a system called GSA e-library so you can see what other small businesses are doing. GSA – E Library is a great resource for small and medium-sized businesses and contractors.
Step 5 – GSA Contract Management
If you have a GSA contract, you can grow your business quickly and grow fast while building a strong core competence that you can also use in the private sector. You’ll want to make sure you’re always preparing to win more federal contracts once you’ve got a contract. It requires a lot of discipline and you have to keep everything under control and make sure that you always attend networking events, apply for and follow up calls for proposals and always make the best suggestions I can. When it comes to contracts between G SAO and E, you are held responsible for the entire process, not just a small part of it.
There Are 12 GSA Schedule Categories – Which Do You Fit Into?
As I mentioned earlier, there are 12 different categories to date, and you need to fit into at least one to get a GSA contract. However, most US companies will fit into one of these categories, so there is quite a bit of room to manoeuvre when it comes to fitting into each category. As you can see, a number of categories are already predefined, but it is important to determine in advance which ones do not suit you. Don’t worry too much about whether you fit into one category or another, because almost anyone can easily make a little twist.
